Campaign Steering Committee

Chairs: Cohen Barnes, Brian Schrader, Bob Seyller, Frank VanBuer, Vince McCabe.

Purpose: To develop a campaign strategy and lead in the efforts to secure passage of the referendum.

  1. Allow name on the campaign material
  2. Oversee all aspects of the election campaign
  3. Establish sub-committees and coordinate their duties
  4. Become familiar with the project and the issues
  5. Provide volunteers with fact sheets and information that will make them knowledgeable representatives of the referendum
  6. Identify groups or key individuals who oppose the referendum and understand/summarize their reasons
  7. Anticipate likely opposition and develop clear, factual and persuasive responses
  8. Alert the superintendent to emerging issues and questions from the community

Finance/Fundraising Committee

Chair: Mark Kerman

Purpose: To handle all fundraising, legal and financial aspects of the campaign

  1. Allow name on the campaign material
  2. Solicit funds ($30,000 - $40,000)
  3. Keep campaign checkbook and pay bills
  4. Maintain record of expenses and receipts
  5. Complete required financial reports after the election
  6. Create campaign Contributors list and oversee scheduling of visits
  7. Monitor funds needed and take appropriate actions
  8. Attend campaign strategy meetings

Outreach Committee

Chair:  Matt Kunz

Purpose:  To identify and contact formal and informal groups in the district with information in support of the referendum.

  1. Allow name on the campaign material
  2. Identify special interest groups likely to be supportive  (examples: parents of pre-schoolers, elementary parents, gifted education parents, special education parents, Chamber of Commerce, parent councils, district advisory groups, new families, booster clubs, realtors' association, etc.)
  3. Identify influential community members and groups and solicit endorsements
  4. Set up meetings and presentations for these groups/individuals to gain support and minimize opposition
  5. Solicit the group's president or spokesperson to personally write or e-mail members of their group to support the referendum
  6. Coordinate absentee voting for college students
  7. Attend campaign strategy meetings

Tech/Marketing Committee

Chairs: Lisa Wilcox

Purpose: To develop and distribute the message and information resulting in a "yes" vote.

  1. Allow name on the campaign material
  2. Develop and distribute campaign literature
  3. Design and place ads in paper/s prior to the election
  4. Solicit letters to the editor and help compose the letters as needed
  5. Consider cable TV, radio or other publicity opportunities
  6. Recruit and coach speakers for the referendum
  7. Accompany superintendent or other committee members at displays, meetings, or events
  8. Develop and distribute PowerPoint presentations, literature, buttons, posters, yard signs, and other forms of publicity
  9. Assist the district liaison in developing a campaign calendar coordinating committee efforts and district projects
  10. Attend campaign strategy meetings

Get out the Vote Committee

Chair: Melissa Butts

Purpose: To identify "yes" voters and get them to the polls.

  1. Allow name on the campaign material
  2. Recruit volunteers for calling
  3. Schedule phone use
  4. Prepare information for callers including information related to voting (polling places, absentee ballots, registrations, etc.)
  5. Provide training meetings for volunteers
  6. Coordinate calls to identify supportive voters
  7. Coordinate call to supporters on election day to remind them to vote
  8. Arrange for administration/ board members to be present to answer questions during the calling sessions
  9. Arrange for transportation and/or child care for "yes" voters needing this assistance to get to the polls
  10. Attend campaign strategy meetings

School District Staff Committee

Chair:  Judy Stafstrom and Cindy Lofthouse

Purpose:  To reinforce the necessity of the referendum.

  1. Be supportive of and participate in campaign efforts
  2. Ask questions and be well informed
  3. Focus on the benefits to students
  4. Continue to demonstrate good stewardship and provide the extraordinary service that brings support for the district

Student Committee

Chair: Adam Pourahmadi

Purpose:  To organize the student population of District #428 to help gain support for the referendum.

  1. Organize and Distribute referendum information to student population
  2. Write "Letters to the Editor" justifying and supporting the referendum
  3. Encourage Parents to become involved in referendum committee
  4. Encourage Parents to write "Letters to the Editor" supporting the referendum
  5. Participate in the Get out the Vote committee
  6. Encourage Parents to become involved with the Get out the Vote committee
