What if the referendum doesn't pass?

The school district has already had to take steps to confront the lack of capacity in our schools, and more are sure to come. Here are ideas that are being talked about now.

At the high school level:

  • Regular classes, enrichment activities, and sports have already been impacted.
  • More cutbacks will occur if we do not act, further degrading the educational experience of our students.
  • No matter the outcome of the referendum, the high school will probably have to begin classes far earlier in the morning than at present.
  • If the referendum fails, more extreme measures will be considered, including the possibility of having to have two shifts at the high schools.
  • Districts that have turned to multiple shifts at high schools have been extremely disappointed in the results.

At the elementary school level:

  • full day kindergarten may be slated to be discontinued
  • more portable classrooms will be added to the elementary schools
  • many more schools will see art and music rooms turned into classrooms replaced by "art on a cart" or "music on a cart" programs
